Emergency Prepare

Important Message from Roger C Simons, Sr.,
Chief of Fire Department, Anne Arundel County, Maryland

For your safety, consider the fact emergency resonse organizations may not have the resources to handle immediately a large, dynamic event. What can you do to care for your families, businesses, and communities during the time it takes to assess needs and provide the resources to service these needs? I strongly encourage a partnership between the community and your emergency resonse organization. In short, plan ahead in this fashion.

  • Understand the terms “Evacuation” and “Shelter in Place”
  • Identify local television and radio stations that provide emergency information.
  • Stock and maintain emergency supplies, including a “Disaster Supplies Kit”.
  • Have escape plans with safe meeting places, for both your homes and businesses (include infirm or elderly neighbors).
  • Encourage your community to consdier their role in providing shelter and services until help arrives.
  • Your plans and actions should include a method to assess your needs, then report those needs to the person or organization in charge of the incident.

I encourage you to prepare should some future event impede our ability to serve you in a timely fashion. The detailed information has been made available as a planning tool for that purpose. We are “Committed to Your Safety” and look forward to working with you should the need arise.

Chief Roger C Simonds, Sr.
